W 2 Professorship Social Anthropology of Southeast Asia

with an emphasis on labour relations and dependency research

The professorship is for a five year position with a tenure track option and is to
be filled as soon as possible.

We are looking for applicants with a background in anthropology (social an-
thropology, cultural anthropology, ethnology) or Southeast Asian Studies. Re-
quirements are a broad knowledge of cultural or social anthropology and em-
pirical research experience in Southeast Asia.

Preference will be given to applicants with research experience on the subject
of social relations and forms of work that are characterised by dependency and
asymmetrical power relations (such as unfree labour, slavery, asymmetric la-
bour relations, dependence). An explicit openness for historical issues and
questions is expected. The chosen candidate will be expected to take a leading
role in the development of the Bonn Center for Dependency and Slavery Stud-
ies (

Applicants are required to have a completed university degree (Master, Magis-
ter or Staatsexamen), a PhD as well as a Habilitation or equivalent publications
in a subject relevant to the subject of unfree and dependent labour relations.
The successful applicant will be expected to have experience in interdisciplinary
research teams and in working internationally. Extensive teaching experience
and the successful acquisition of third-party research funding is expected.
