Call for Abstracts:

Scholars and Graduate level students are encouraged to submit their proposals to: abstracts@icird.org
Abstracts should consist of max. 500 words and include research question(s) and research method(s). Proposals will be peer-reviewed. The conference committee will send an acceptance letter with scheduling information and other instructions for submitting final abstract statements and full versions of papers.

Deadline for abstract submission: 30 October 2010
Full papers are requested by 1 March 2011

The upcoming issue of the Austrian Journal of South-East Asian Studies aims at featuring a focus on Gender and Gender Studies in South-East Asia. Of special interest to the board of editors are submissions dealing with one or several of the following issues:

  • The situation of Gender Studies within the academic sphere and Social Sciences: Gender discourse (its topics, aims, relevance, actors etc.) within South-East Asian Studies and in Social Sciences and Humanities in the region itself and or from a comparative perspective.

Call for Paper: Südostasien 3/2010 “Süd-Süd Beziehungen”

55 Jahre sind vergangen, seit sich die Blockfreienbewegung auf der Asien-Afrika-Konferenz in Bandung formierte. Doch es ist ruhig geworden um die Blockfreien – gibt es sie noch? Was machen sie überhaupt für einen Sinn nach dem Ende des Kalten Krieges? Jenseits dieser Fragen möchten wir anläßlich des 55 Jahrestages der Gründung schauen, welchen Charakter und welche Ausmaße die Süd-Süd-Beziehungen heute haben. Die beiden asiatischen Aufsteiger Indien und China sorgen zunehmend für eine Veränderung internationaler Machtpositionen und beherrschen das öffentliche Interesse. Manche reden bereits von einem neuen Kalten Krieg zwischen China und den USA, aber wie sieht es „jenseits der Macht“ aus? Welche politischen, wirtschaftlichen, kulturellen und sozialen Beziehungen gibt es zwischen Südostasien, Afrika, den pazifischen Inseln und Lateinamerika. Gibt es noch ein Nachwirken von Bandung im Sinne einer gefühlten Südidentität, welche sich unter den Bedingungen der Globalisierung möglicherweise neu formiert? Oder sind Zentrum und Peripherie nicht mehr auszumachen und die eh immer schwache Solidarität des Südens ist einem nationalen Marktpragmatismus gewichen? Gibt es spezifische Migrationsbewegungen innerhalb des Südens, oder einen spezifischen Wissenstransfer? Wie steht ASEAN zu Lateinamerika und Afrika? Was macht die transnationale Organisierte Kriminalität im Süden?

6. Tage der Kultur- und Sozialanthropologie

Am 22. und 23. April finden heuer zum sechsten Mal die Tage der Kultur- und Sozialanthropologie statt.

Nicht nur laufende Forschungsprojekte werden vorgestellt, auch zahlreiche Workshops können besucht werden!  Ein Workshop über Südostasien, zu dem Thema “Südostasiatische Perhipherien im 21.Jahrhundert” wird ebenfalls angeboten.
