Herewith we would like to kindly draw your attention to the upcoming conference on Human Security in South-East Asia on May 28 & 29 2010 in Vienna, Austria:
“Human Security in South-East Asia”.
Our conference aims to cover the discourse on Human Security approaches in South-East Asia and their implementation effects through case studies. A third panel is held open to give especially young scholars an opportunity to present their current research on South-East Asia.

At the Department of Culture Studies and Oriental Languages (IKOS), University of Oslo, a Position as doctoral research fellowship (SKO/post code 1017) within the new media in Asia and/or the Middle East is available.
The successful candidate is expected to study the use of new media and communication technologies (including the Internet, satellite TV, and mobile phones) in Asia and/or the Middle East and their impact in the social, political, religious and/or cultural domains. Candidates must demonstrate advanced active skills in at least one relevant Asian and/ or Middle Eastern language. The position is available for a period of three years.

Dr. phil. habil. Sri Tjahjani Kuhnt-Saptodewo stammt aus Indonesien und ist Sprachwissenschafterin und Ethnologin. Seit November 2004 ist sie Leiterin der Sammlung Insulares Südostasien am Museum für Völkerkunde Wien. Ihre Forschungsschwerpunkte sind Religionsethnologie und Oraltradition. Ihr Film “Der Fluß des geliehenen Lebens. Das Totenfest bei den Ngaju Dayak” bekam 1996 von American Anthropological Association den Award of Excellence.

Architektur ist ein Bedeutungsträger, der in den jeweiligen Kulturen unterschiedlich behandelt, konstruiert und interpretiert wird. Die Vortragende geht davon aus, dass es einen Zusammenhang zwischen der gebauten Form (Architektur) und der menschlichen Selbstwahrnehmung (Identität) gibt. Der Identitätsbegriff kreist um die Fragestellung, wie sich komplexe soziale Gefüge und Gruppen selbst wahrnehmen und definieren bzw. wie diese Selbstbilder in gebaute Form übertragen werden.

On 25th and 26th May 2010 the ASLI (Asian Law Institute) and the Ahmad Ibrahim Kulliyyah of Laws, International Islamic University, are holding the 7th Annual ASLI conference in Kuala Lumpur.
In addition to the Paper Presentations and Distinguished Lecture, there will be a Research Forum, Poster Presentation and Young Scholars Workshop.
The broad theme of the conference is “Law in a Pluralist Asia: Challenges and Prospects.” Asia is arguably the most pluralist region in the world and law has a critical role in accommodating and managing this plurality, which exists at so many levels. There will be five parallel sessions that focus on selected sub-themes.

The European Association of Taiwan Studies (EATS) will hold its seventh conference on 8-10 April 2010.
The conference is coorganized by the Universität Tübingen, the European Research Center on Contemporary Taiwan (ERCCT),the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS) and the European Association of Taiwan Studies (EATS).

The Monash University in Melbourne is offering a PhD Scholarship for work in an aspect of the music-culture of Aceh.
The Scholarship is worth approximately $26,000 p.a. for three years.
Eligibility: Master degree or equivalent in either ethnomusicology, anthropology or sociology with an interest or experience in music.
Deadline: December 1, 2009.
